20th Century Fox’s buddy comedy Let’s Be Cops opened last night to $1.2M in late nights that began at 10 PM. The Luke Greenfield picture bowed in 2,900 locales and rolls out wide Friday on 3,093 screens.
Greenfield co-scripted, produced and directed this one that stars Jake Johnson (who seems a lot like Owen Wilson in this pic) and Damon Wayans, Jr. as two losers who decide to impersonate cops and find that it gets them the respect they’ve always craved before accidentally becoming involved in a real-life crime.

It’s hard to get a comp on this as it bowed at 10 PM. Last year’s We’re The Millers,which opened on a Tuesday at 8 PM, grossed $1.7M and went on to to have an opening of $6.7M for a $6.4M three-day and a $37.9M five-day.
The other R-rated comedy it’s being compared to is A Haunted House which opened last year to $18.1M for the three-day. This one has an R-rated scene … it shows a naked man’s testicles from the back in the face of Wayans for what seems like eternity.
Gee, thanks, MPAA Ratings and Classifications Board for not flagging that. Ugh, that’s one image I wouldn’t mind not having in my head.
